Love London is now celebrating its sixth year. Each new year sees the event growing from strength to strength and becoming a permanent fixture in London’s ‘green’ Calendar.

The Greater London Authority has supported Love London over the past few years, recognising the importance of directly engaging with Londoners to encourage minor lifestyle change — I see this as crucial and complementary to our work at City Hall and that is why I am delighted to continue supporting Love London.

The challenge of the twenty first century is Climate Change. The recent Government review of the Mayor of London’s powers means that I have been given a new statutory duty to tackle Climate Change.

This is important in that it commits not just me but all future Mayors to produce Climate Change Mitigation and Energy Strategy as well as a Climate Change Adaptation Strategy. How we all live, work and travel day to day makes a material difference to London’s response to climate change, So I will want to consult widely in taking these strategies forward.

I intend to use the next four years to ensure that London continues to lead the way on Climate Change. In the meantime I wish this year’s Love London Festival every success in helping to make our Capital a world-class sustainable City.
