Festival calls Londoners to climate action
This summer the Love London festival is preparing to green-up the capital with three weeks of eco events (1st – 21st June) centred around World Environment Day on 5th June.
The festival is a key part of London’s bid to become a sustainable capital in time for the 2012 Olympics and aims to help the city’s businesses, communities and individuals to make a difference. Love London is attracting a lot of attention, building the capital’s reputation globally and has inspired interest and events as far afield as Amsterdam and Sydney.
Throughout June hundreds of events will take place across the city with ordinary Londoners and grassroots groups showcasing innovative local events alongside high-profile regulars such as the Camden Green Fair and the Revolve Brighton to London Eco-Rally. This huge variety of events is expected to draw some half a million Londoners. Full events listings are available on our website www.lovelondon.org.uk.
Love London is committed to celebrating the hard work of ordinary Londoners and to supporting and encouraging grassroots groups and communities to do their bit locally and get their ideas noticed. Formerly known as the London Sustainability Weeks, Love London is supported by a growing list of high-profile partners and sponsors headed by London 21 Sustainability Network. This year the team is working with the Capital Clean-Up campaign.
Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, said: "Well done to Love London for putting on this fantastic festival to encourage fun, easy ways to make our capital a greener and cleaner place. Most people know that I love cycling, which is just one of the great activities being celebrated - and there is no better time to take to two wheels than now, when the sun comes out. I am delighted to lend my support to events such as these that work towards my own goal of making London a more pleasant city."
